Broadley Coppice

Walking into Broadley Coppice feels like stepping back in time. This is proper old-growth woodland on the Herefordshire-Worcestershire border, the sort of place where you can actually hear yourself think - no theme parks, no gift shops, just trees doing what they've done for centuries. The coppice is a working woodland, which means you'll see evidence of traditional management alongside mature hardwoods. Bluebells carpet the floor come spring, and there's a genuine sense of wildness that feels rare these days.

It's best suited to walkers and anyone who appreciates woodland without the faffing about. There's no visitor centre or cafe, so come prepared. Allow a couple of hours minimum to properly explore the trails, though you could easily stretch it to a half-day if you're in no rush. The paths can be muddy after rain, and insect repellent is smart in summer months.

Situated just a few miles from Worcester, Broadley Coppice works nicely alongside a holiday park stay in the area. If you're based at The Rookery Woods or Malvern View, both within five miles, this makes an excellent morning or afternoon excursion when the weather cooperates. The woodland isn't signposted like a tourist attraction - that's rather the point - so come with an OS map or download the routes beforehand. Free to wander, naturally. Winter visits are underrated; the light cuts through bare branches in that low-angle way that makes photography enthusiasts proper happy.
