Broad Sand Rocks

The rocks at Broad Sand are proper dramatic when the tide's out. You get these dark, jagged formations jutting from the beach itself, the sort of thing that makes you understand why Northumberland's coastline gets so much attention. The beach here is wide and sandy - hence the name - but it's the rocks themselves that draw people in. They're good for scrambling around if you've got the balance for it, though watch the tide. It comes in fast along this stretch.

Walkers will find this a straightforward stop between Morpeth and the coast. It's not a trudge to get down to the beach, and if you're based at either Golden Sands Holiday Park or Cresswell Towers, you're basically on the doorstep. Families with younger kids might manage an hour here pottering about, finding rock pools and collecting shells. Teenagers and proper rock enthusiasts will spend longer examining the formations - there's decent geology on display if you know what you're looking at.

There's no formal facilities that I could find, so pack what you need. The real draw is the landscape itself - moody, unpolished, and honest. It's not a resort beach with deckchairs and ice cream vans. Come here if you want to feel the North Sea in your bones rather than top up a tan. Low tide is obviously best, so check before you head down. Morpeth's inland, so you'll be making the drive out here deliberately - worth it if you're after dramatic coastal scenery without the crowds.
