Rather than funnelling everyone through one building, this scheme scatters artworks across shop windows, alleyways, and public spaces throughout the market town itself. You're essentially on a self-guided trail, poking about Bridport's independent shops and cafes whilst spotting contemporary work by local and visiting artists.

It works particularly well if you're the sort who likes to amble rather than sit still for hours. Kids tend to enjoy the hunt aspect of it - there's something satisfying about finding pieces tucked into unexpected corners. The scheme changes regularly, so even if you've been before, there's usually something new to discover. Best to grab a map from the tourist information or one of the participating venues when you arrive, since opening times and participating locations shift.

Admission is free, which is the whole point - art isn't locked away behind an entrance fee. Allow a couple of hours to do it properly without rushing. It pairs brilliantly with a stay at any of the nearby parks like Highlands End or West Bay, both within walking distance. The coastal towns along this stretch - West Bay especially, with its famous cliffs - are close enough for an easy day trip, so you could combine the Art Map with proper seaside time. Bridport itself has good food and proper independent shops worth your time anyway.
