Bridlington Speedboats

The speedboat trips that run from Bridlington Harbour are proper adrenaline stuff - you're talking high-speed runs along the Yorkshire coast with the wind in your hair and spray in your face. The boats head out past Flamborough Head, where the cliffs rear up dramatically and you get a genuinely thrilling perspective on those chalk formations you'd only see from the sea. It's the sort of thing that appeals most to families with kids old enough not to be terrified, and anyone after a bit of excitement rather than a gentle amble.

You'll want to allow a good couple of hours from arrival to return - the actual trip tends to run somewhere between thirty and forty minutes depending on conditions and which route they're doing. Wear something waterproof unless you enjoy the sensation of being thoroughly soaked. The trips run through the summer season, obviously, though exact dates shift year to year so worth checking before you head down.

It works well if you're based at Seaside Caravan Park just outside town - you can do an afternoon trip and still have time for fish and chips on the seafront afterwards. Be honest though: if your lot gets motion sickness or everyone's after a relaxing potter, this isn't the ticket.
