Brickyard Spinney

The woodland floor here is thick with leaf litter and moss - proper springy underfoot after rain. Brickyard Spinney is a small forest tucked between Kenilworth and Warwick that offers a genuine escape without needing to trek far from civilisation. It's the kind of place where you can lose an hour wandering the paths without seeing another soul, though it's never going to blow your mind with dramatic vistas or ancient monuments.

Walkers will find it worthwhile, particularly those based at Mousley House Farm just over 2 miles away - close enough for a morning or afternoon stroll without committing to a full day out. The woodland is mixed and atmospheric rather than showstopping, with decent networking of paths that let you pick your own route. Kids will get something out of it too, though they'll probably need a specific mission - hunting for fungi, following a stream, that sort of thing - rather than just ambling about.

There's no visitor infrastructure here as far as I can tell, so come prepared with a decent map or download the routes beforehand. It's free to enter and there's no registration needed. If you're staying at Knight's Village at Warwick Castle or the caravan club site near Warwick Racecourse, this makes a decent pocket-sized alternative to spending yet another afternoon at the castle. Best in autumn when the canopy's still thick but the light's changed, or after decent rainfall when everything feels alive. Allow two hours maximum unless you're serious about rambling.
