Brickfields Pond

Just outside Conwy, Brickfields Pond is one of those spots that catches you off guard. It's a proper working pond - industrial in origin, which gives it a different character to the picturesque lakes you might expect in North Wales. The water's ringed by mature trees and there's genuine tranquility here, despite being so close to Rhyl.

It's excellent for a quiet walk, particularly if you're after birdwatching. The pond draws waterfowl year-round, and in spring and autumn the migratory species make it worth a proper look. Families with younger kids will find the circular path manageable enough, though there's not much else to do once you've done the loop - maybe 45 minutes total. History buffs might be intrigued by its industrial heritage, though there's minimal interpretation on site.

Stay close by at Parkdean Resorts Ty Mawr if you want a more polished base, or Golden Sands if you're after something more budget-friendly. Both sit within a few miles, so it's a straightforward addition to a day's exploring the Conwy coast.

Come early morning or late afternoon to avoid the worst of the foot traffic. It's free to visit and you can park nearby without fuss. Worth adding to an itinerary if you're in the area, but don't rearrange your holiday around it - it's the kind of place that works better as a bonus than a main event.
