Brankam Hill

The walk up Brankam Hill takes you above Blairgowrie into proper Highland scenery, with moorland stretching out in all directions once you've climbed the 1,500 feet or so. It's not a bruising slog - the ascent is steady rather than steep - but it's proper walking, so come prepared with decent boots and layers. The summit rewards you with views across Perthshire that on a clear day reach toward the Cairngorms. On a murky day, honestly, you're staring at cloud.

This is squarely a walkers' hill. Families with young children will find the climb tedious; teenagers with some fitness might enjoy it. The moorland itself is open and exposed, so wind can whip across the top without warning. Allow three to four hours for the round trip depending on your pace and how long you linger at the summit.

Blairgowrie sits at the base, a useful wee town for grabbing supplies or a post-walk coffee before heading back. If you're staying at Nethercraig Holiday Park or Five Roads Caravan Park - both just a handful of miles away - Brankam Hill makes a solid half-day outing. Pair it with other local walks in the area rather than banking the whole day on this single peak. Free to access, naturally, being Scottish moorland. Midges can be vicious in July and August, so spring or autumn tends to be the smarter window.
