Brancaster Beach

The beach at Brancaster stretches wide and flat, the kind of Norfolk coast you either love or find a bit bleak depending on your mood. It's all salt marshes, shallow water, and a horizon that seems to go on forever. What makes it special is how quiet it stays even in summer - you won't fight crowds here like you might further down the coast.

Walkers absolutely thrive here. The Norfolk Coast Path runs right through, and you can head out for miles in either direction without seeing another soul. Birdwatchers bring telescopes and patience. Families with small kids get a gentler experience than the steep drops elsewhere - the gradual slope means you can wade without worrying. It's also completely free and open at all hours.

Allow two to three hours if you're actually exploring rather than just parking up for photos. The light's properly beautiful in late afternoon, when the flats turn golden and the mud reflects everything. Bring wellies if it's been wet - the paths get boggy. King's Lynn is your nearest significant town, but you're better served by the smaller villages dotted along the coast.
