Bramcote Hills Park

The moment you step onto the ridge at Bramcote Hills, you get why locals have been walking here for decades. It's genuinely one of the best vantage points near Nottingham - proper views across the city and well beyond, depending on the weather. The reserve itself covers sandstone hills with a mix of woodland and open grassland, so there's actual variety as you move through it rather than just trudging the same terrain.

Walkers will find the most value here. The paths are decent and there's enough elevation to make it feel like proper exercise without being punishing. History enthusiasts will appreciate the geological side of things - those sandstone formations tell a story. Families with older kids do well; younger ones might lose interest after the initial viewpoint unless you're planning a proper ramble.

The whole experience takes about ninety minutes to two hours if you're not hanging about. It's free, which is brilliant, and you can turn up whenever suits. Go on a clear day or after rain when everything's sharp - fog rolls in and you've paid nothing to see a grey wall.
