The lake at Highfields Park sits quietly on Nottingham's southern edge, a proper slice of calm that feels miles from the city centre. It's the kind of place where you actually notice the light on the water and the geese doing their thing without any fuss. The boating lake itself is the draw here - you can rent a pedalo or rowing boat if the mood takes you, though it's equally fine just to walk the perimeter and watch the waterfowl go about their business. The park spreads out around it with decent paths, a bit of rough grassland, and enough trees to make it feel like proper countryside even though you're barely three miles from Nottingham town.

Families with younger kids will get a couple of hours out of it easily - the water holds their attention, and there's room to run about.
