Boscastle Harbour View Point

The walk down to Boscastle Harbour catches you off guard. You've wound through narrow Cornish lanes, parked up near Bude, and suddenly the path opens onto a view that stops you mid-stride - twin cliffs frame a perfectly sheltered cove with a tiny working harbour squeezed between them like something from a Victorian postcard.

What you're actually standing at is the viewpoint overlooking this proper working fishing village, not some theme-park recreation. The harbour itself is the draw - weathered stone quays, fishing boats bobbing in actual water, the sort of place where locals still mend nets. The cliffs either side are dramatic without being showy, dark slate rising sharp against whatever weather's rolling in from the Atlantic.

It's a short walk from the car park, maybe ten minutes, and the path is easy enough for most ages though it does slope. Kids will want to scramble down closer to the water, which you can do, though it gets steep. History buffs might spend a bit longer reading the information boards about the village's past and the 1952 flood that nearly wiped it out.

Go early or late to avoid the day-trippers from Bude, which sits just five miles south. The light's better then anyway, especially if you've got a camera. Allow an hour if you're moving slowly, thirty minutes if you're just grabbing the view. It works well as a morning stop before heading to Pencuke Farm or one of the other holiday parks nearby - not a full afternoon's work, but absolutely worth the detour.
