Bole Hill

Two short but steep climbs from the village get you to the top of this modest hill above Bakewell, where the views open up across the White Peak countryside in proper fashion. The summit itself is nothing fancy - just open moorland with a rough path - but the panorama takes in Chatsworth Park to the east and rolls of limestone dales stretching south.

Walkers looking for a quick morning leg-stretch will find this spot does the job nicely. It's not a challenging climb by Peak District standards, but there's enough of a gradient to get the heart pumping for twenty minutes. Families with older children should manage it without too much moaning, though little ones might struggle with the final push to the top.

The lack of any formal facilities means you're relying on the weather being kind - there's nowhere to shelter if it turns. Early morning or late afternoon visits work best for the light, and you'll often have the place to yourself outside summer weekends.
