The layout works its way through woodland and open fairways - nothing flashy, but honest golf that rewards decent ball-striking. Greens are maintained well enough, and you'll get a sense of genuine club atmosphere rather than just being processed through a busy public facility.

Golfers will get the most out of it, obviously. Mid-to-high handicappers find it forgiving; low handicaps get their test. It's the sort of place where regulars know the quirks of each hole - there's character built up over time. Families staying at nearby parks like Waleswood or Rother Valley can sort a guest round if someone in the party fancies a game, though you'll need to ring ahead about visitor access and green fees.

Allow a good four hours for a round, five if you're not moving quickly. Best avoided on Saturday mornings unless you've booked well in advance - like most clubs, competition day gets rammed. The course sits comfortably within striking distance of both Poolsbrook and Rother Valley if you're basing yourself at either for a few days. It works well as a morning activity before heading to one of the country parks in the afternoon - Rother Valley especially has walking trails and water activities that'll entertain non-golfers while you're out on the course.
