Birdland Park and Gardens

Walking into Birdland feels like stepping into someone's rather ambitious back garden - except this back garden happens to contain over 500 birds from across the globe. It's a zoo, but a modest one, focused entirely on our feathered friends rather than trying to cram in everything with four legs.

You'll wander through tree-lined paths watching flamingos, penguins, parrots, and eagles. There's a tropical house that gets properly steamy, an aviary where you can walk among free-flying birds, and feeding stations where you can get up close. Kids enjoy it most between ages four and ten - younger ones get tired of walking, older ones start checking their phones.

It's free entry, which is why people do pop in while staying nearby. Allow two to three hours maximum. The gardens themselves are pleasant rather than spectacular, and honestly, once you've seen the birds, there isn't much else keeping you there. Go midweek in summer if you can - weekends get rammed with school groups.

The real value here is location. You're only a few minutes from Bourton-on-the-Water itself, and if you're staying at Cotswolds Meadow Glamping just up the road, it makes a decent rainy-day option. Pair it with a proper walk along the river and a cream tea in the village, and you've got yourself an afternoon. As a standalone destination, it's not worth planning a holiday around, but as part of a Cotswolds trip, it fills a gap without fuss.
