Binnein Mor

The walk up Binnein Mor from Kinlochleven is properly steep and takes real effort, but the payoff - standing at 1,130 metres with Glen Coe sprawling below you - makes the slog worthwhile. This isn't a gentle stroll. You're looking at a solid four to five hours round trip, gaining over 700 metres of elevation through rough terrain that'll test your boots and your legs.

What you get is a proper Highland experience. The views across to Ben Nevis, down into the glen, and out towards the Mamores are genuinely dramatic - the kind of vista that makes you understand why people get obsessed with Scottish mountains. On a clear day, it's superb. On a murky one (which is fairly common up here), you're mostly climbing through cloud and hoping for a breakthrough at the top.

This is very much for walkers who know what they're doing. It's not technical climbing, but it demands decent fitness and decent weather gear. Families with young children will struggle unless the kids are proper hillwalkers already. Solo hikers love it, as do groups after a genuine challenge.

There's no cafe, no visitor centre, nothing at the summit itself - just mountain. You'll want to start early from Kinlochleven, bring proper supplies, and tell someone where you're going. The nearby Blackwater Hostel campsite makes a logical base if you're planning a few days of peak bagging in the area. Autumn and spring tend to offer the best conditions, though you can attempt it most of the year if conditions allow.
