Billericay Brewing Company

The brewery sits on the edge of Billericay, a proper working operation where you can actually watch beer being made rather than just drink it. The space is industrial but welcoming - stainless steel tanks, brewing equipment, the whole works - and the staff know what they're talking about without being pretentious about it.

You get to see the process from grain to glass, which takes about an hour if you're genuinely interested. They run tours most weekends, though it's worth ringing ahead to check times. The on-site bar is small and honest - their own brews served at reasonable prices, nothing fancy. The IPA is solid, the lager proper clean.

This works best for adults or older teens who actually care about how beer gets made. Younger kids will find it dull after twenty minutes, and it's definitely not a destination on its own. But if you're camped at Barleylands or Stuarts Wood for a few days, it makes a decent afternoon stop - say two to three hours if you include a pint or two.

The town of Billericay itself is unremarkable, but that's not really the point. It's the brewery itself that's worth the visit - small-scale, local, and genuinely passionate about what they're doing. Worth fitting in alongside a park stay in the area, though don't expect bells and whistles.
