Berkshire Yeomanry Museum

The Berkshire Yeomanry Museum sits in Bracknell Forest, and it's one of those local history spots that quietly rewards a visit if you're into military heritage. The collection focuses on the Berkshire Yeomanry - a cavalry unit with deep roots in the region - and you'll find uniforms, weapons, photographs and documents that tell the story of their campaigns from the 19th century onwards.

It's not flashy. There's no interactive nonsense or simulator rides. Windsor, the nearest town, gives you more substantial attractions if this works as a half-day stop rather than a full day out. Worth timing it right though, as opening hours aren't always predictable, so ring ahead before you set off. The drive from Windsor takes about 15 minutes. If you're passing through Bracknell Forest and have an hour to spare, it's well worth the detour.
