Bellmount View viewpoint

The climb up to Bellmount View rewards you with one of those rare Oxfordshire vistas that actually takes your breath away. It's a proper viewpoint - the sort of place where you can see for miles across the Cotswold Edge, especially on a clear day when the landscape rolls out in every direction. The walk itself is manageable, nothing too punishing, and the reserve around it is worth exploring if you've got an hour to kill.

On a busy weekend it fills up with local walkers and families from Faringdon, but arrive early and you'll have it largely to yourself.

It's free, as these things tend to be, and there's enough rough terrain to keep kids entertained without demanding serious hiking experience. The nature reserve itself has paths worth exploring - wildflower meadows in season, good birdwatching potential. Allow a solid hour if you want to do the viewpoint and poke around the reserve properly.

Staying nearby, Faringdon Grange sits less than a mile away, making it a logical morning or evening stop. The Real Campsite, just over two miles off, works equally well as a base. Either way, this is the sort of spot that improves a park holiday in the area - takes twenty minutes to do properly, costs nothing, and gives you that sense of having actually seen the landscape rather than just driven through it.
