Beinn Udlaidh

The walk up Beinn Udlaidh takes about two hours from the car park near Crianlarich, and it's genuinely one of the best bang-for-your-buck hill climbs in the Lowlands. The path starts gentle enough, winding through woodland before opening onto moorland with proper views across towards Ben More and the wider Highland landscape.

What strikes you most is how much perspective you gain from just 2,400 feet. The Trossachs spread out below, and on a clear day you're looking south across the Central Belt. It's not a technical scramble - families with decent fitness will manage it without drama, though the final push gets steep and the wind can whip across the exposed summit. Most folk reckon three to four hours there and back is realistic, including a breather at the top.

This works brilliantly as part of a longer walking trip rather than a standalone visit. If you're camping at Tyndrum Holiday Park, it's close enough to tackle as a proper day out without eating into multiple days of your break. The ascent rewards you with solitude too - you'll see far fewer people here than you would tackling Ben More, which looms nearby.

Go early, bring a waterproof even if it looks fine, and allow extra time if the ground's boggy after rain. Free, obviously. No facilities at the start, so sort yourself in Crianlarich first.
