Beinn Sitheag

The walk up Beinn Sitheag is proper straightforward if you're based around Tarbert. It's not a monster of a peak - just 407 metres - but the views across Loch Fyne and toward the Cowal Peninsula are genuinely worth the leg work. The ascent takes about 45 minutes at a decent pace, and the terrain is reasonable underfoot without being a slog.

Walkers will appreciate this one more than casual visitors. There's no café, no visitor centre, no fanfare - you're paying in effort, not pounds. The reward is what matters: on a clear day you can see right across to the Highlands, and Loch Fyne sprawls below like something from a postcard. Bring proper boots though, especially after rain. The path gets boggy in patches and there's no tarmac nonsense to buffer you from the Scottish weather.

Families with kids aged eight upward will manage it fine. Anything younger and you're carrying them the last stretch, which isn't ideal. The real win is that it's accessible from Tarbert without much faffing about, making it a solid half-day option between other activities.

Pair it with exploring Tarbert itself - the harbour's pleasant for a wander and there's decent fish and chips - and you've got a proper day sorted. October and April offer the best light and fewest midges.
