Beinn Odhar

The climb up Beinn Odhar takes about two hours from Crianlarich and rewards you with proper views across the Trossachs. It's not a brutal slog - the path is clear enough and the ascent steady rather than punishing. From the 901-metre summit, you can see right across to Ben Lomond on a clear day, which makes the effort feel worthwhile.

This one suits walkers who want a proper hill day without needing rock scrambling skills or serious mountain experience. The Stirling area has gentler hills than the Highlands proper, and Beinn Odhar sits right at that sweet spot - challenging enough to feel like an achievement, but accessible enough that confident families with older kids won't struggle. Allow half a day, not a full mountain expedition.

There's no visitor centre or facilities on the hill itself, so sort yourself out in Crianlarich before you head up. The path starts from the village and the whole thing is free - you're just walking through the landscape. Good boots matter more than anything else, and in wet weather the ground gets boggy quickly.

If you're based at Tyndrum Holiday Park just down the road, this makes an excellent morning walk before a café stop in the village. The real draw here is the solitude and the views rather than any infrastructure or bells and whistles.
