Beinn nan Imirean

The walk up Beinn nan Imirean isn't exactly a bruising scramble, but it'll give your legs a proper talking-to. This rounded Stirling hill rises to 711 metres and sits just outside Crianlarich, making it one of those accessible peaks that rewards without being impossibly steep.

The ascent takes roughly two hours from the base, and on a clear day the views are genuinely excellent - you're looking out across the Scottish Lowlands with real depth to the vista. The path is reasonably well-trodden and straightforward enough, though it does get boggy after rain, so don't expect to keep your boots pristine.

It's a solid choice for hillwalkers who want something substantive but not a full commitment to the harder Highlands terrain. Families with teenagers will manage it fine; younger kids might find it a bit much. The summit itself is a bit of a letdown - there's cairn and moorland, but no dramatic rocky top to make you feel you've conquered something special.

If you're staying at Tyndrum Holiday Park nearby, this makes a decent morning outing before heading elsewhere. The town of Crianlarich is your jumping-off point, and it's genuinely worth checking conditions beforehand - the weather can turn quickly up here. Allow four hours for the round trip including breaks, and bring proper waterproofs. It's free to climb, obviously, but it's not the sort of peak that'll stick with you for years.
