Beinn nam Fuaran

The walk up Beinn nam Fuaran from Crianlarich is straightforward enough, though don't let that fool you into thinking it's a doddle. This Lowland peak sits at 711 metres and commands proper views across the Trossachs when the weather plays ball - which, let's be honest, isn't guaranteed in this part of Scotland.

You're looking at a solid three hours there and back if you're moving at a decent pace. The path is well-trodden and manageable for anyone with reasonable fitness, though it does get steep in sections. Families with older kids will manage fine, but very young ones might struggle with the climb.

What makes it worthwhile is the straightforward approach and the fact you're not fighting crowds. It's the sort of walk that rewards you without demanding serious mountaineering skills. On a clear day you'll see Ben More and Stob Binnein across the glen. On a grey day, frankly, you're mainly battling Scottish weather and hoping the summit view materializes.

The nearest accommodation is Tyndrum Holiday Park, a short drive south, which gives you a comfortable base for exploring the area's peaks. The park itself is rated well and makes logical sense as a jumping-off point. Allow a good half-day for this one, bring waterproofs - you'll almost certainly need them - and go in the warmer months when daylight gives you plenty of time. It's free, obviously, being a Scottish hill. Nothing fancy, just honest hillwalking.
