Beinn na h-Eaglaise

The walk up Beinn na h-Eaglaise isn't technically challenging, but it rewards you with views across Loch Carron that most tourists never bother to climb for. The peak itself sits at just under 600 metres, which means even reasonably fit walkers can manage it in a couple of hours from the trailhead near Strathcarron.

What makes this one worth the effort is the isolation. Unlike some of the more famous Highland peaks, you'll likely have the summit to yourself on most days. The route takes you through moorland dotted with bog, so waterproof boots are essential - there's no getting around the wet bits. The views open up properly once you're above 400 metres, and on a clear day the loch below is genuinely striking.

It's best suited to walkers who enjoy a proper outing without needing a dramatic scramble at the end. Families with teenagers will find it manageable; younger kids might struggle with the boggy ground. Allow three to four hours return, depending on fitness. There's no charge - it's open country - and you can park near the starting point without fuss.

The location means you're already in proper walking country, so pairing it with other routes in the area makes sense. The peak itself is honest and unshowy, which is precisely why it's worth doing.
