Beinn Lochain

Beinn Lochain rises 2,089 feet above the Isle of Arran landscape, offering one of the more straightforward hill walks in this part of the Scottish Lowlands. It's not a knife-edge scramble or a technical climb - more a proper uphill trudge through moorland and bracken with views that genuinely justify the effort. The walk takes roughly two to three hours depending on fitness and how often you stop to catch your breath. On a clear day you're looking south towards Arran's higher peaks and across the Firth of Clyde, which makes the sweat worth it. The route itself is boggy in places - waterproof boots are non-negotiable - but never confusing. You won't find crowds here like you might on some of the more famous Arran summits. That's the appeal, really. Families with teenagers will manage it fine. Younger children might find it dull once the novelty of walking wears off, which happens quicker than you'd think at that age. Walkers and hill bagging types will appreciate the isolation and the fact you can string it together with other peaks if you're in the mood for a longer day.
