About Beinn Dubh
The real appeal here is the walk itself rather than a dramatic summit plateau. You get moorland underfoot, decent views back towards Ben More, and on a clear day you can see across to the Breadalbane hills. It's the sort of climb that works brilliantly for fell walkers who want something substantial but not brain-scrambling, and families with older kids - say 12 upwards - will manage it fine if they're used to hills. Younger children might find the initial slog tedious.
Allow three to four hours return from Crianlarich town. The route isn't signed brilliantly, so take a map or download the track beforehand. There's no car park at a trailhead - you'll start from the town itself, which takes some navigation to get right.
Stay at Tyndrum Holiday Park a few miles down the road and you've got easy access to this and Ben More next door - two proper days' walking without moving your pitch. Go in September or early October if you can; summer midges here are genuinely awful, and the boggy sections hold water for weeks after rain.
