About Beinn Conchra
On a clear day the sight across Loch Carron and towards the Applecross mountains is properly worth the hike. The peak itself isn't crowded, which is the main appeal really. You'll share the path with maybe a handful of other walkers rather than queuing for summit photos.
It's a solid two to three hours round trip depending on your pace and how long you linger at the top. The terrain's a mix of boggy lower sections and rocky ascent - nothing technical, just steady going. Families with confident hill walkers will manage it fine; younger kids might find it a bit much unless they're already used to Scottish hills.
Best visited outside July and August when the midges aren't out in force. Spring or autumn give you the clearest skies too. The whole thing works brilliantly as a morning outing if you're basing yourself at Reraig Caravan & Camping over on Skye - just a short drive across the bridge from Kyle. It's the kind of hike that reminds you why people bother with the Scottish Highlands at all.
