Beinn Chuirn

The walk up Beinn Chuirn from Crianlarich is steep, proper steep in places, but the effort pays off once you're above the tree line. You're looking at roughly two hours to the summit if you're moving steadily, maybe longer if you stop for breath - which you will.

This isn't Ben Nevis. The peak sits at 900 metres odd, making it manageable for anyone with decent fitness and proper boots. The views sweep across the Trossachs and down towards Loch Earn, and on a clear day you can pick out Ben Vorlich and the bigger peaks beyond. The path itself starts gentle enough near Crianlarich before it climbs relentlessly through moorland and rough grass.

Walkers will love this. It's serious enough to feel like an achievement without demanding mountaineering skills. The landscape is raw and windswept - bring a waterproof because Scottish weather changes in minutes. Families with teenagers keen on hiking would manage fine; younger kids would struggle with the ascent and the exposure in places.

There's no visitor centre, no facilities on the hill itself. Park in Crianlarich and go early. The surrounding area, particularly around Tyndrum Holiday Park just three miles away, makes an ideal base if you're mixing peak-bagging with a more relaxed break. Allow a full morning or afternoon, take water and something to eat, and pick a day when the forecast looks halfway decent. Summer months give you the best conditions and longest daylight.
