Beinn an Lochain

This 901-metre peak sits right above Cairndow in the heart of Argyll, offering one of the most straightforward hill walks in the region without requiring serious mountaineering skills. The path winds up through mixed woodland before breaking out onto open moorland, and the views across Loch Fyne and toward the Arrochar Alps make the slog worthwhile. Most walkers knock it off in around three hours return, which means you're not committing your entire day to it.

It's a cracking option for families with older kids or anyone wanting a proper hill experience without the technical difficulty of Ben Arthur or the Cobbler. The terrain can be boggy lower down - waterproof boots aren't optional - but the summit itself is relatively clear and the cairn marks the spot properly.
