Beinn a' Chrùlaiste

The walk up Beinn a' Chrùlaiste from Kinlochleven is straightforward enough, but don't let that fool you into thinking it's a doddle. This 1,100-metre peak sits right above the town, which means you're gaining serious height in not much distance, and the final push gets properly steep.

What makes it worth the effort isn't just the summit views - though watching across to Ben Nevis and down Loch Leven on a clear day is genuinely excellent. The walk itself is the thing. You'll pick your way through moorland and past the remains of old industrial workings; Kinlochleven has history tucked into its landscape, and this climb lets you read it as you go up.

Most people allow two to three hours return, depending on fitness and how often you stop for photos. The path is rough in places but well-trodden. Bring proper boots and waterproof kit - the weather can turn quickly, and exposure on the ridge isn't fun in wind or low cloud.

It's ideal for walkers with reasonable legs and none for the pram brigade. Families with older kids who've done a few hills will manage it fine. You're looking at a proper morning or early afternoon out rather than a quick stroll.
