This is a proper working dogs facility - think border collies and working breeds rather than a petting zoo. The enclosure itself is modest, but there's something oddly compelling about watching these animals do what they've been bred for. Kids find it interesting if they've got genuine curiosity about working dogs, though younger children might lose interest after twenty minutes or so.

It's the kind of stop that works well if you're already in the area, not something to plan a whole day around. The nearest caravan parks - Banff Links and Myrus Holiday Park are both within walking distance at about a mile and a half - mean you could easily pop over from a seaside base. Whitehills Caravan Park, a couple of miles further down the coast, gives you more space but still keeps you close enough for a casual visit.

Admission details and opening hours aren't straightforward to pin down online, so ring ahead before you set out. The drive from Aberdeen takes roughly an hour, which makes this a reasonable half-morning excursion if you're exploring the Aberdeenshire coast between Banff and Macduff. Combine it with a walk along the harbour or fish and chips in town and you've got a solid afternoon. Real value if you've got dog-mad teenagers; less compelling if your crew are only interested in attractions with gift shops.
