Beacon Hill

The walk up Beacon Hill rewards you with proper 360-degree views across Warwickshire - on a clear day you can see all the way to the Cotswolds. It's not particularly high at around 200 metres, but that's rather the point; it's accessible without being a trudge, and the climb takes maybe twenty minutes from the road.

What makes it worth the trip is the sense of perspective you get standing on top. The surrounding countryside rolls out in every direction, patchwork fields and distant church spires, and there's a real feeling of being able to see half the county from one spot. It's the kind of place where you understand why it was ever a beacon hill in the first place.

Southam sits just a couple of miles away, so this works well as a break in a wider day out exploring the area. The walk itself is straightforward enough for families with older kids, though younger ones might find the final push a bit steep for what is essentially a lump of a hill. Allow an hour or so including standing about at the top pretending you know which ridge is which.

If you're camping at Holt Farm or Hill Farm Glamping nearby, it's an easy detour. There's something satisfying about climbing a proper viewpoint that isn't overrun - just you, the wind, and genuinely good views. Bring a proper map if you're trying to identify what's what in the distance; your phone signal might be a bit dodgy up there.
