But if you're staying nearby - Galloway Forest Holiday Park is less than a mile away - it makes a pleasant ten-minute detour before heading out to walk the forest trails. The building's plain, even severe, but there's something rather lovely about that plainness.

Go when the light's decent, ideally late afternoon when it catches the whitewash. The place tends to be locked outside service times, so don't expect to get inside unless there's a service on.
