Bargeny Hill

The walk up Bargeny Hill takes around 45 minutes if you're reasonably fit, and the views across the Lowlands are genuinely worth the effort. You're not climbing a mountain here - it's more of a proper hill walk, the sort that clears your head without leaving you knackered. From the top you get a decent view across towards the Campsies and on a clear day the perspective back towards Glasgow is surprisingly good. The path itself is straightforward enough, though it does get muddy after rain so proper boots are essential rather than optional. This isn't somewhere you'll spend hours. Most people do it as a brisk morning outing and head back down. Families with older kids will manage it fine; younger children might find the 45-minute slog a bit much. History buffs won't find much to detain them - it's really a walkers' hill rather than a cultural destination. The nearest decent base is Glasgow, though if you're camping at The WHW Hotel & Campsite just down the road, it makes for an excellent half-day walk to break up a longer stay in the area. Parking is limited so arriving early is wise. It's free, naturally, and the Stirling location means you can easily pair it with other Lowland walks if you're making a proper hiking weekend of it. Nothing fancy, but genuinely satisfying if you like straightforward hill walking.
