Banc Mynyddgorddu

The walk up Banc Mynyddgorddu rewards you with proper views across Cardigan Bay and inland towards the Cambrian Mountains. It's a straightforward hill rather than a technical climb - the sort of thing walkers do in an afternoon from Aberystwyth without needing a dawn start or specialist kit.

The peak itself sits at around 500 metres, which means the air clears noticeably by the time you reach the top. On a decent day you can see right across to the Snowdonia range if you squint hard enough. The moorland approach is open and rolling, a bit boggy in places after rain but nothing that'll stop you dead.

This works best for hill walkers who've got two or three hours to spare rather than serious mountaineers after technical terrain. Families with older kids will manage it fine; younger ones might find the walk tedious without views to rush towards. History types won't find much up here - it's geology and landscape you're after.

The real win is combining it with the holiday parks clustered near Aberystwyth - Aber Camping sits closest at just over three miles away, with Cambrian Coast Holiday Park and Clarach Bay Holiday Village within five miles. Base yourself at one of those and you've got hill walks, coastal trails, and the town's seaside attractions all within reach.

Free to visit, naturally. Allow three to four hours round trip depending on fitness and how long you want to linger at the top watching the light change across the bay.
