Ballee Baptist Church

The little Baptist chapel at Ballee sits quiet on the Ballymena side of Mid Antrim, the sort of place you'd miss entirely if you weren't looking for it. It's a working church, modest and unshowy, with that particular character of rural Northern Irish meetinghouses - whitewashed walls, plain windows, the absolute minimum of fuss. If you're interested in nonconformist architecture or the way faith shaped these communities, it's worth a stop. Otherwise, it won't hold you long.

This isn't a destination in itself. But if you're staying at Sunset Glamping just down the road and fancy a walk into local history, Ballee offers a genuine glimpse of how ordinary people worshipped away from the grander Anglican cathedrals. The building dates back generations and still serves its congregation. You'll get more from visiting if someone's about, though even from outside you can sense the seriousness of purpose that built these places.

Ballymena town centre is close enough for supplies and lunch if you're touring the area. The church works best paired with countryside walks rather than as a standalone trip. Best time is a calm afternoon when the light catches the whitewash properly. Free to look around, though obviously respect that it's an active place of worship rather than a visitor attraction. Plan ten minutes maximum for a proper look, unless you're the type who reads every plaque and contemplates the interior for half an hour.
