Portglenone Marina

The marina at Portglenone sits where the River Bann widens into something almost proper, with boats bobbing gently against the quays and the water reflecting whatever grey or blue the sky's decided to throw down that day. It's a working place, not a manicured attraction, which is exactly why it works. You can walk the towpath, watch the fishing boats come and go, grab a coffee at one of the small cafes nearby, and actually feel like you've stumbled onto something real rather than something built for tourists.

Walkers will get the most from Portglenone - there's a solid stretch of path along the water, decent views upstream, and enough quiet to hear yourself think. Families won't find theme park thrills here, but kids who like messing about with boats and spotting waterfowl will be content for an hour or so. History buffs might enjoy the fact that this stretch of the Bann has been a working waterway for centuries, though there's not much interpretation on site.

It's all free, naturally, and you can spend as long as you like. There's no entrance fee or ticketing nonsense. The nearest proper town is Ballymena, about ten minutes inland, but if you're staying at Sunset Glamping just 1.7 miles away or Lough Beg Glamping nearby, you've got a genuine local spot without the usual polish. Worth half a morning if you're in the area, or a pleasant stroll before heading elsewhere.
