Badenoch Free Church

The small Free Church sits on the main road through Newtonmore, easy to spot but easy to walk straight past if you're not paying attention. Inside, it's a proper slice of Highland church history - whitewashed walls, simple wooden pews, the kind of place where you can actually hear yourself think. Built in the 1800s, it reflects the religious divisions that split Scottish Protestantism, and the congregation here has kept things largely unchanged for generations.

It's not a showy attraction. No café, no gift shop, no recorded tour. That's rather the point. If you're interested in Scottish ecclesiastical history or just want to step into somewhere genuinely used rather than preserved for tourists, it's worth a ten-minute stop while you're passing through Newtonmore. The building itself tells you more than a plaque ever could.

Walking groups and history types will appreciate it more than families with restless kids, to be honest. It's compact enough not to eat up time during a Highland park holiday - if you're staying at Invernahavon Caravan Park nearby, you could easily pop in while heading to other Badenoch attractions.
