Windsor sits just across the water, so this scrappy nature reserve slots perfectly into a park holiday if you fancy breaking up the manicured caravan-site routine with actual countryside.

The reserve is small - you won't need more than an hour here unless you're seriously into spotting butterflies or sketching birds. There's a path along the river bank that's pleasant enough, and in spring the wildflower meadow gets going properly. Summer brings dragonflies. It's not dramatic, but it's genuine.

Families with young kids might find it a bit tame after twenty minutes. Serious nature enthusiasts and riverside walkers will appreciate it more, especially if you're doing a longer Thames Path stretch. The real appeal is location - it's free (as far as I can tell), accessible, and means you're not driving to some managed attraction when you've got this on your doorstep.

Stay at Queens Acre, Hampshire Park Homes, or Amerden, all within four miles, and you've got your base sorted. The reserve works as a morning potter before heading into Windsor proper, or an evening walk when the light goes soft on the water. Don't expect anything grand. Do expect peace.
