Bab's Hill

The walk up Bab's Hill rewards you with proper views across the Kent countryside - nothing mountainous, but on a clear day you can see why locals bother with it. It's a modest peak near Canterbury, the sort of place you'd stumble upon while exploring the area rather than plan a special trip around.

The ascent itself takes about twenty minutes from the nearest car park, through mixed woodland and open scrubland. The path can be muddy after rain, so proper boots make sense. Once you're up there, the vista opens out - rolling fields, distant church spires, the kind of landscape that makes you understand why Canterbury's been important for centuries.

It works best for walkers doing a longer ramble through the region. Kids will find it manageable enough, though there's nothing to do at the top except look around and maybe eat a sandwich. History buffs might get more from the cathedral and medieval streets of Canterbury itself, just 0.6 miles away via the camping club site.

If you're camping locally - the Canterbury Camping and Caravanning Club is practically on the doorstep, with several glamping options like Canterbury Lodges (2.7 miles) and Brook Farm (4.5 miles) within easy reach - combine this with a day wandering Canterbury's centre. The hill works as a morning outing before exploring the old town properly. Free to access, takes an hour including the summit loiter. Worth it if you're in the area, but don't rearrange your holiday around it.
