Baboon Adventures

Baboon Adventures near Reading is one of those places that sounds daft on paper and turns out to be genuinely brilliant in person. It's a hands-on wildlife experience where you get properly close to baboons - feeding them, watching their behaviour, learning how they interact. The whole setup feels less like a sterile zoo and more like you're actually part of their world for a couple of hours.

The baboons themselves are the real draw. They're intelligent, chaotic, and endlessly entertaining - watching a troop sort out their hierarchy or squabble over food is far more engaging than standing behind glass. Staff know their animals inside out and will talk you through what you're seeing without being preachy about it. Kids absolutely love the hands-on element, though younger ones might find it a bit intense if a particularly bold baboon makes a beeline for their snack bag.

You'll need a good couple of hours to do it properly. It's not the sort of place you whizz through in thirty minutes. The site itself is fairly compact, but the experience lingers - you'll be spotting baboon behaviour in everything for days afterwards.

For a park holiday in the area, Ravenswing Park and Bishops Green Farm Campsite are both solid bases within easy driving distance. Baboon Adventures works well as a morning or afternoon break from the usual park routine, especially if you've got children who need livening up. It's the kind of attraction that justifies the detour, though I'd ring ahead first to check current opening hours and admission costs before you make the trip.
