The lake holds carp, pike, and roach, and the fishing community takes it seriously - permits and day tickets are available through the fishery. Non-anglers might find it bit quiet; it's not a splashy public leisure destination with cafes and paddleboards. What you get instead is peace and competent fishing infrastructure.

Walkers fare better than you'd expect. The lake's accessible by foot from Winchester's outskirts, and the surrounding countryside offers decent rambling once you've had your fill of water-gazing.
