Audlem Methodist Church

The church sits on the high street in Audlem, a proper little canal-side village just south of Nantwich, and it's the sort of place you'd stumble past without thinking twice if you weren't paying attention. But step inside and you'll find yourself in a Methodist chapel with real character - all red brick and Victorian solidity, the kind of building that's watched over this small Cheshire community for generations.

It's not a showstopper like a cathedral, and you won't spend hours here. Twenty minutes, maybe half an hour if you're into the detail of Methodist architecture and the craftsmanship of the period. The interior has that calm, unpretentious feel you get in chapel buildings - no ostentatious decoration, just clean lines and honest materials. If you're interested in social history and how ordinary communities organised their spiritual lives in the 19th century, it tells that story well.

Audlem itself is worth a proper wander though. The canal runs through it, and there's a village green with actual character, independent shops, and good pubs. Pair this with a stay at Sunny Side Touring Park, just 1.5 miles away, and you've got an easy base for exploring the Cheshire canal network. The church is free to visit - worth a quick look if you're passing through village, but don't drive specially for it. Go for Audlem's charm as a whole, not the church on its own.
