The Moray Firth is one of their favourite haunts, and locals know that quiet mornings between May and September offer decent odds of spotting them. The viewpoint itself sits high enough to give you proper vantage points without being dramatic cliffs - more of a gentle rise with several stopping spots as you move along the bay.

Walkers will find this a genuine asset if you're based at Fortrose Bay Campsite or Barrow Campsite near Nairn. It's the sort of place you can spend twenty minutes or two hours depending on mood - there's a decent coastal path threading through, and the shingle is solid underfoot. Families with kids will get something out of it, though there's no playground infrastructure, so don't expect entertainment beyond nature itself.

The real magic happens in late afternoon light when the bay takes on that pewter-gold quality. Wind can pick up fast off the water, so layers matter. No facilities that I could spot, so sort yourself out in Fortrose first. Free to visit, open whenever - this is a proper wild space, not a managed attraction.
