Ardargie Hill

The walk up Ardargie Hill rewards you with views across the Tay Valley that make the climb feel worthwhile. It's not a massive undertaking - the summit sits at a decent height without being punishing - and the path is straightforward enough for most fitness levels, though it does get a bit steep towards the top.

What you get is a proper panorama once you're up there. On a clear day you can see right across Perthshire, with the Ochil Hills and beyond laid out in front of you. It's the sort of place where an hour and a half works fine if you're just after the views and a breather, though walkers wanting a longer day can loop it into other routes in the area.

The approach from Perth itself is direct - you're looking at a straightforward car journey to the trailhead. Bring water and decent footwear; Scottish hillsides can be boggy even when it looks dry. Spring and autumn work best here; winter can turn it slippery, and summer midges have been known to drive people mad.

If you're based at one of the nearby parks - Maycroft Retreat sits closest at just over two miles away, with Perth Caravan Park and Greenhill Farm Glamping both within reasonable striking distance - this makes an easy morning or afternoon outing. It's not a full-day commitment, which suits families who want something less demanding than a major Munro, though serious hill-walkers might find it a touch short of spectacular.
