Angel Pond

A modest body of water on the outskirts of Peterborough, Angel Pond sits quietly where you'd least expect to find it - sandwiched between ordinary roads and suburban sprawl. It's the sort of place locals know about but visitors stumble upon by accident, which is precisely why it works. The water is calm and reflective, fringed with reeds and the occasional fishing spot where patient anglers set up for the day. You won't find play equipment or manicured lawns here. What you get instead is a decent walk around the perimeter - nothing strenuous, but proper enough to stretch the legs - and genuine peace. Birdwatchers rate it highly; dragonflies too if you come in summer. Families with young kids might manage twenty minutes of interest before wanting to move on, but anyone after a quiet moment with water and sky will find it restorative. The pond sits barely two miles from both Ferry Meadows Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite and Nene Outdoors, so if you're based at either site, it's worth a morning visit before heading to bigger attractions elsewhere in the area. No facilities to speak of - bring your own tea in a flask. Free access, sensible footwear advised when it's been wet. Go early to avoid the dog walkers, though honestly there aren't usually many of those either.
