Just a short walk from Wells Cathedral, Andelli Art Gallery sits quietly on a street most tourists miss while photographing the cathedral's west front. It's a proper working gallery - the kind where you might actually bump into the artist - rather than some corporate white box. The space itself feels intimate, showing contemporary work that changes regularly, and the scale means you're not trudging through endless rooms.

Art types will appreciate it far more than casual holiday-makers. If you're the sort who reads exhibition notes properly and has opinions about composition, you'll spend a decent hour here. Others might breeze through in fifteen minutes. There's no gift shop nonsense, which is refreshing.

The location is its real strength. After visiting the cathedral - which you absolutely should if you're staying at one of the nearby parks like Cathedral View Glamping or Wells Touring Park - you can duck in here without it eating up half your afternoon. It breaks up the day nicely between the cathedral and exploring Wells' high street properly.

One word of warning: opening hours and admission aren't widely advertised online, so ring ahead before making the trip. Nothing worse than arriving at a gallery only to find it closed for a private event. That said, it's worth the phone call. If you're based at Old Oaks Touring or Cheddar Camping further out, it's close enough to justify a morning in Wells.
