An Groban

An Groban rises 635 metres above the moorland west of Gairloch, and on a clear day the effort to reach it pays off properly. The walk is straightforward enough - roughly two hours up from the valley floor, with the final push across open hill terrain where the wind can be fierce. You won't find marked paths or facilities, just heather, rock, and increasingly expansive views across the Minch towards the Hebrides.

Walkers will get the most from this one. It's not a casual amble, and scrambling experience helps on the steeper sections, but it rewards those willing to put in genuine effort with genuine solitude. Families with younger kids might find the exposure and unmarked terrain frustrating rather than fun. Photographers should come early - the light on the surrounding moorland in late afternoon is exceptional.

There's no charge, no opening hours, no visitor centre. Just show up with proper boots, waterproofs, and a map or GPS. Allow a full morning or afternoon. Weather changes fast in the Highlands, so check conditions before setting out.
