Amgueddfa Wlân Cymru

The Welsh Wool Museum sits in the village of Drefach Felindre, just outside Llandysul, and it's genuinely one of those places that surprises you. You walk in expecting thirty minutes of mild cultural education and end up properly absorbed in how wool production shaped this entire valley.

The mill itself is the real draw. You get to see the looms and machinery that kept the Welsh textile industry alive, and they actually fire them up so you're not just looking at static exhibits - you hear the clatter and clang of what work sounded like here for generations. There's textile production happening in the adjacent working mill as well, which adds real context to the displays.

Tuesday to Saturday, 10am to 5pm, and it's free. Allow a solid two hours if you're the type who reads everything; ninety minutes if you're just after the highlights. Kids get a kick out of the interactive looms, but it's not a playground - teenagers and adults interested in industrial heritage or textiles will find it far more rewarding than younger children.

It works brilliantly as a half-day jaunt from any of the glamping spots within a few miles - Thistledown or Wild Wellingtons are close enough not to feel like a trek. The surrounding countryside is lovely for walks, and Llandysul itself has enough cafes and shops to make an afternoon of it. Worth going if you're in Carmarthenshire anyway, though I wouldn't plan a trip around it alone.
