Crazy Golf

There's a proper windmill and a few felt-covered slopes waiting for you near Llandysul, and that's Crazy Golf in a nutshell. It's the kind of place where you whack a ball through some painted tunnels, negotiate a tight corner around a clown's mouth, and try not to get too cross when your putt ricochets off the side wall. Free to turn up and have a go, which means there's no real excuse not to.

This is a decent spot if you've got kids in tow and the weather's being reasonable - an hour's worth of entertainment that doesn't require booking or spending the earth. Adults will find it mildly amusing rather than gripping, truth be told. The novelty of the obstacles carries you through, but you're not going to be planning a weekend around it. Best tackled on a dry day; I'd avoid it when it's been raining hard because the greens can get a bit sluggish.

Llandysul itself is small and quiet, which means Crazy Golf slots nicely into a broader day out rather than standing alone as a destination. If you're based at The Hiveaway just down the road, or spread across one of the glamping parks dotted around the area - Thistledown or Wild Wellingtons are close enough for a morning detour - it works as a simple thing to do between breakfast and lunch. Pair it with a walk along the Teifi or a poke around the local shops, and you've got a rounded half-day. Worth the visit if you're in the neighbourhood, but don't drive hours to find it.
